PUIG CAMPANA: Bike ride & Multi-pitch in 1 day

Sweat, learn and be amazed

I was volunteering at the Orange House hostel when a friend proposed me to climb a multi-pitch on the Puig. Being every morning so amazed looking at the impressive peak being the highest coastal mountain from Spain, it was really easy to be psyched at the idea. As we didn’t have any car at that time but being only 5 km far from the hostel, we could imagine easily to do it in a day.

The ride up was 1 hour long though because of the steepness -1km-. Luckily there are 2 fontains on the way providing fresh water from the mountain.

We had chosen to climb El Diamante from its reputation, because we would abseil from a cave which was quite tempting for having a nice rest on our top after being in the sun for the climb and it was perfectly in our grade. (Knowing that for multi-pitch, you should always climb around 2 grades below your level, especially for trad-climbing.)

As we had the 80m rope, quickdraws, harness helmet and all the friends and cams, was nice to not have to carry the water until reaching the fonts halfway.

We parked the bikes and had still about 15min walk to reach the beginning of the first route which was a diagonale 5.

It was my first trad leading experience in multi-pitch which was super exciting. Having to decide every 1/1,5 meter what and how to place safety gear for my partner and I. Patrick had a lot of experience in trad-climbing and multi-pitches so i trusted his advice fully.

The view was amazing, the weather as well. The length i led was a 6a in a corner, i like corners. I loved it. We ended up in a cool cave from which we abseiled down. We were about 1000 meters highand our enthusiasm was at his highest!
